The ABS Demographic Statistics database contains population estimates and population projections for males, females and persons of all ages for the States, Territories, and Australia.
ABS Demographic Statistics is based on the Australian Bureau of Statistics publications Population by Age and Sex, Australian States and Territories (ABS 3201.0) and Population Projections (ABS 3222.0). Both publications contain annual data (fiscal year basis), organized by sex and age, for each of the six States and two Territories, and Australia. Population projections are provided up to 2056, and under three alternative sets of assumptions (A, B and C) on fertility, migration and life expectancy.
The database contains almost 12,000 time series at annual frequency.
Population Projections (ABS 3222.0) is released periodically, with the most recent release taking place in September 2008. Population by Age and Sex, Australian States and Territories (ABS 3201.0) is revised by the ABS once a quarter, at the time the release of Australian Demographic Statistics (ABS 3101.0).
ABS Demographic Statistics is divided into two Topics, one for each of the associated ABS publications. Within each Topic, series are organized by State, or Territory, or Australia.
